If you haven’t seen the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, here’s a book that will take you far away to the tropics of Thailand. It’s a tale of young backpackers in search of a hidden paradise. A wonderfully written story, it’s filled with suspense and adventure.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

As her adopted surname depicts, Cheryl was a lost soul. After losing her mom and then later seeing her marriage fall apart, she makes the most impulsive decision of her life. She sets out on an hike of more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — all alone. It’s an incredible story of getting lost to be found.

Touching the Void by Joe Simpson

So hard to believe that it can only be true, this epic mountaineering story accounts the experience of two climbers striving to summit a remote part of the Andes. While we won’t give any spoilers, we can say this adventure does not go as planned. Horrendous weather. A dreadful decision. And the ultimate test of human survival. It’s a page turner.

In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson

On the lighter-side, this book takes us all on a trip down under. Known for his clever and curious storytelling, Bill Bryson brings us on his own personal Austrailan journey while adding in a robust amount history, culture and factoids about this unique country. Give a read and you’ll unquestionably start plotting your own adventure there.

Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan

You don’t have to be surfer to find yourself captivated by the words and adventures of William Finnegan. From growing up a surfer kid in the turbulent 1960s to discovering the ultimate wave on deserted Fiji island, his adventures take us all over the planet. Good for your soul, this finely crafted memoir will have you dreaming of waves and places far away.
